SMT Tooling - When do you need it? Here are a few examples.
Well, you will need pallets if you are processing flex boards or non-panelized odd-shaped boards. Maybe you have parts that are too close to the edge to run safely on the conveyor. Or maybe your board is large and thin and needs the additional support offered by the pallet. Sometimes, you might need to hold parts down during reflow. Sure, there is a pallet solution for that too.
In some cases, you may need superior support through the screen printing process only. In this case, a printer plate may be all you need.
For components needing placement, a matrix tray is needed when the components are not supplied on tape and reel.
