This month The Spotlight swings around to an area never previously illuminated: That's right, you guessed it, the ever popular Reflow Table. We have never featured something like this on our website as it is truly a one of a kind process solution.
Our customer needed a method of reflowing a large, thick sheet of copper to the underside of a PCB. Clearly, this is an operation that cannot be done via conventional reflow means.
The customer had an idea of somehow using a hot plate to heat the copper. Kelly Dodd and our design team took the idea from there and developed it.
What we ended up with is a two station reflow table. A hot plate is moved from station to station and then elevated to come into contact with a heat transfer plate, which in turn heats the copper, reflowing it to the underside of the PCB. While one station is heating, the other station is cooling and can be reloaded such that there is always a reflow operation underway.
In addition, the unit was designed with interchangability in mind. The top can be removed and replaced with another configuration top such that the table can be used for a variety of different parts. This one feature alone saved this customer thousands of dollars and a lot of floor space!
The bottom line is this; if you have a unique application that requires some sort of unheard of tooling solution,
