The subject of this Pentagon Spotlight is crisis avoidance. Here is a story about how we were able to help our customer out of a jam.
An entire run of boards were assembled with press fit connectors installed on the wrong side. The connectors needed to be removed and re-used, due to a 12 week lead time to replace the connectors and a replacement cost of $47,000.
Our solution was to design a tool with spring-loaded pins to evenly remove the connector from the PCB in conjunction with a plate that provided support for the PCB.
This solution was so successful that the customer was able to easily meet their delivery. In addition, the connector manufacturer was so impressed, they are negotiating with us to buy our design!
